Summer Internship Program in Biomedical Research
- Selected applicants will join one of NIH's research laboratories for a minimum of eight weeks between late May and August. At the end of the summer, students are strongly encouraged to participate in the Summer Research Program Poster Day. This provides an opportunity for students to present their work before the NIH scientific community. Students are also expected to participate in meetings and seminars in their individual laboratories. In addition, with permission from their preceptors, students may also attend formal lectures and symposia which are listed in the weekly "NIH Calendar of Events." (National Institutes of Health)

Research Supplements for Individuals with Disabilities

Summers of Discovery Research Training Award
- Summers of Discovery Program for which Intramural Research Training Awards (IRTAs) are given to outstanding high school, college undergraduate and graduates students interested in pursuing careers in the biomedical/ biological sciences. Werner K. Kirsten Student Intern Program
- This program, located at NCI-Frederick, is designed to expose Frederick or Washington County Public School System and St. John’s Literary Institute at Prospect Hall seniors to research through "hands-on" laboratory training. Students work full-time (40 hours per week) for nine consecutive weeks during the summer and continue during the school year (three hours per day) as a student volunteer for high school graduation credit.
