Figure 5 - Long Description
Figure five is a two-tiered diagram showing lymphokines and "helper
T-cell stimulated by macrophages" at the very top of the diagram. From
there it splits into two separate columns with arrows pointing downward to
denote a process. The two columns are titled: Cell-Mediated Response and Antibody-Mediated
Response.
Cell-Mediated Response
- killer T-cell
- lymphokines stimulate killer T-cells
- activated killer T-cell
- stimulated killer T-cell recognizes infected cell
- infected cell, pathogens, and normal cells
- killer T-cell destroys infected cell
Antibody-Mediated Response
- B-cell
- lymphokines activate B-cells
- plasma B-cell
- plasma B-cells produce antibodies
- free antibodies
- antibodies bind to pathogens
- pathogens
- antibodies cause clumping of pathogens
- macrophages clear clumped pathogens from system
